Five Elements Rap!

Flocabulary - Five Things (Elements of a Short Story) from Flocabulary on Vimeo.
We are learning to write narratives in class and we saw this video today to learn about the 5 elements.  It's fun to learn something in a song - especially a rap song!

'The Wise Doll' Summary Comics

This is the cover page of the story we read.

Today was a funny day.  All the students who are in the choir spent most of the day rehearsing for the Music Festival that is coming up.  We only had a few students left in the class today so our teacher decided to read us a story called, 'The Wise Doll' and do a reading activity.  We summarised the story into a comic strip using an online tool called ToonDoo.  It was our first time using this online programme so it was a lot of fun learning new skills.

The greatest challenge was to reduce the story into only four boxes.  Some of us left out some bits but we still had fun creating the comics.

If you want to see our comics, please go to our wiki and look at the student pages.  Here are some examples below.  Click on the images to see a bigger version of it:

The Legend of the Worst Boy in the World

This week, our teacher took a break from the book that she was reading to us and picked out another fun book for us to explore.  The book is called "The Legend of the Worst Boy in the World."  It is about a boy named Will.  In the book he gets into a competition with his Grandpa about who could tell the best worst experience story.  We enjoyed the story so much that we decided to write Will a letter to tell him about our terrible and embarrassing experiences.  Here is a photo of the display.

Many of our stories made each other and especially our teacher laugh.  Make sure you check these letters out when you're in our classroom!

What we did during Book Week

As Amy said in the previous post, Book Week was a week of fantastic celebration of books.  We had fabulous guests and fun activities in the classroom.

This is our "You be the Judge" board.  On the board were some adjectives that described books.  What we had to do was write down titles of books that we have read that matched the descriptions.  It was a good way for us to discover new books that we haven't read.

We learned about Haiku poems this week and we wrote Haiku poems about books.
Haiku poems are Japanese poems with 17 syllables.

This is Clifford.  He comes to visit us every time we have book week.
He brought some books for Mr Pareanga, our Pirate, to read to us.
Clifford chose the book for us.  Itwas about a brave little watchdog.
It was a fantastic story that made all of us laugh.

Book Week!

This week is Book Week. Today we had to dress up as our favourite book characters. On Monday a famous artist and also an author called Stu Duval came to visit Point View. He told us an amazing story called Deep Ark 6. The following day we had a terrific lesson with Stu on cartooning. It was awsome! Miss Lee was the guest reader we all enjoyed the book! Thank you Miss Lee! :)
